The harm of sugar outweighs its benefits.

A new US study shows that excessive sugar intake in experimental mice leads to brain damage and memory loss.

Researchers first trained mice to navigate a maze, then divided them into two groups. One group was fed a high-fructose solution daily to replace their drinking water, while the other group was fed both the high-fructose solution and omega-3 fatty acids, which are believed to protect nerve synapses from damage. After 6 weeks, the first group of mice forgot the path to escape the maze; the memory of the other group was not significantly affected, and they could still escape the maze quickly.
