Hamburgers and fries, as fashionable fast food, are beloved by children. While people continuously seek refinement, novelty, and foreign cuisines in their diet, junk food has quietly made its way to the dining table. The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a list of the top 10 global junk foods and their hazards, yet many of these still appear on children's plates. For the health of our children, let's keep them away from junk food!
The top 10 junk foods announced by the WHO
A. Fried foods: A leading cause of cardiovascular disease (due to fried starch); contain carcinogenic substances; destroy vitamins and denature proteins.
B. Pickled foods: Lead to high blood pressure and excessive burden on the kidneys, and can cause nasopharyngeal cancer; affect the mucous system (harmful to the stomach and intestines); easily lead to ulcers and inflammation.
C. Processed meat products (such as meat jerky, floss, sausages, etc.): contain nitrites, one of the three major carcinogens (for preservation and coloring); contain numerous preservatives, which burden the liver.
D. Biscuit-type foods (excluding low-temperature baked and whole-wheat biscuits): contain excessive artificial flavors and colors, burdening liver function; severely destroy vitamins; high in calories but low in nutrients.
E. Carbonated soft drinks: contain phosphoric and carbonic acid, which deplete calcium from the body; high in sugar, causing a feeling of fullness after consumption and affecting normal appetite.
F. Convenience foods (instant noodles and puffed snacks): excessively high in salt, contain preservatives and artificial flavors (harmful to the liver); provide only calories, with no nutritional value.
G. Canned foods (including fish, meat, and fruits): destroy vitamins and denature proteins; high in calories but low in nutrients.
H. Preserved fruits and plums (candied fruits): contain nitrites, one of the three major carcinogens (for preservation and coloring); excessively high in salt, contain preservatives and artificial flavors (harmful to the liver).
I. Frozen dessert-type foods (ice cream, popsicles, and various ice bars): cream content can easily lead to obesity; high in sugar, affecting the intake of regular meals.
J. Barbecued foods: contain large amounts of "benzene pyrene," the primary of the three major carcinogens; the toxicity of one grilled chicken leg equals that of 60 cigarettes; lead to the charring and denaturing of proteins (increasing the burden on the kidneys and liver).
