As is well known, Ejiao is a beauty product that nourishes both qi and blood for women. Moderate consumption does have some effect on improving one's appearance, but it is not suitable for all women. Some people may experience symptoms of excessive internal heat after taking Ejiao, which is actually detrimental to health.
The specific effects of Ejiao:
1. Ejiao can tonify the blood. Taking Ejiao can promote the growth rate of hemoglobin and red blood cells, with better efficacy than iron supplements. It can effectively improve symptoms of blood deficiency such as pale lips, nails, and eyelids; sallow complexion; dizziness; and palpitations.
2. Ejiao can stop bleeding. It can be used to treat bleeding conditions such as hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematuria, hemafecia, and bleeding during pregnancy.
3. Ejiao can also nourish yin and moisten dryness. Dry weather often leads to respiratory diseases, such as cough. Ejiao can be used to nourish the lung fluids to treat cough.
4. Ejiao can also be used for symptoms caused by insufficient body fluids, such as vexation and insomnia.
People who should not take Ejiao:
Many people believe that Ejiao has the effect of "treating illness if you have one, and strengthening the body if you don't." In fact, the misuse of Ejiao can also lead to side effects, such as causing indigestion and symptoms of excessive internal heat. For example:
1. People who are prone to "internal heat," such as those with heart fire, liver fire, or lung fire, or even those with yin deficiency and fire. If they only take Ejiao, they may experience a condition where their body cannot handle the supplementation, and the fire will become stronger.
2. People with heavy dampness in the body: This can manifest as a dry, bitter, or sticky mouth; fatigue; dizziness or fogginess; abdominal bloating; and poor bowel movements. The most important sign is a thick, greasy coating on the tongue, which can be white or yellow.
3. People with wounds cannot take it. Ejiao promotes blood circulation, so if there is a wound, it cannot be taken immediately. Wait until the wound has scabbed over before consuming it, otherwise the wound may not heal properly.
4. People with blood stasis in the body: This can manifest as a dull complexion, pigmentation, a tendency to bruise easily, dark lips, a dark tongue with possible ecchymosis or petechiae, purplish or thickened sublingual veins, and a choppy pulse. Women often have irregular menstruation, typically characterized by delayed periods, blood clots, abdominal pain, dark color, and a short duration.
5. People with spleen deficiency, i.e., those with poor digestive function. The main manifestations are poor appetite, loose or initially hard then loose stools, fatigue and listlessness, and a sallow complexion. Although there is no rule that people with spleen deficiency cannot take Ejiao, its sticky nature can easily impede the spleen and stomach functions. It is especially unsuitable for patients with spleen deficiency, qi stagnation, poor appetite, and abdominal bloating. If one must take it, it needs to be combined with herbs that regulate qi and promote digestion to counteract the greasy nature of Ejiao.
Experts believe that people with yang deficiency should not take Ejiao. After taking it, they may experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, stomach fullness, and digestive dysfunction. In addition, Ejiao should be discontinued when suffering from a cold, cough, diarrhea, or during menstruation, and can be resumed after the illness has healed or the period has ended.
