Every food contains a variety of elements; while some may be beneficial to the human body, others can pose a risk to health.
Sunflower Seeds
The protein portion of sunflower seeds contains components that inhibit the testes, which can lead to testicular atrophy and affect normal reproductive function. Therefore, young people of childbearing age should not consume them in large quantities.
Alcohol
Scientific research has proven that the main component of alcohol is ethanol. Ethanol can increase the concentration of catecholamines in the body, causing vascular spasms, underdevelopment of the testes, and even testicular atrophy. This leads to structural changes in sperm production, insufficient secretion of male hormones like testosterone, and symptoms of feminization such as a higher-pitched voice and breast enlargement. Such individuals are prone to male infertility, and even if they conceive, there is a higher likelihood of birth defects in the next generation. In women, it can lead to irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, abnormal egg production, loss of libido, or cessation of ovulation.
Garlic
Consuming excessive amounts of garlic can deplete a person's vital energy (zheng qi) and has a significant spermicidal effect. For young people of childbearing age, excessive consumption can adversely affect fertility, so it is not advisable to eat too much.
Roasted Beef and Lamb
Eating roasted beef and lamb is a custom for residents in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and other regions. It was discovered that a small number of women who loved eating roasted lamb gave birth to children with intellectual disabilities, paralysis, or deformities. After investigation and modern medical research, these women and their deformed children were found to be victims of *Toxoplasma gondii* infection. People can become infected when they come into contact with livestock and poultry infected with toxoplasmosis and eat their undercooked meat.
A survey in Hubei Province once found the infection rates of livestock and poultry supplying meat to be: 11.32% for pigs, 34.5% for sheep, 11.8% for chickens, and 9.4% for ducks. If you slaughter livestock and poultry without washing your hands before touching other food, or taste the saltiness of dumpling filling after handling raw meat, or handle raw meat and then touch cooked food, or use the same cutting board and knives for both raw and cooked food, or handle raw meat taken from a cold storage, or sell or roast meat... you can be contaminated with *Toxoplasma gondini* trophozoites at any time. As for women who love eating roasted meat, this is just one link in the chain of easy infection with toxoplasmosis. An infected woman may have no obvious symptoms, but when she becomes pregnant, the *Toxoplasma gondii* can infect the fetus through the uterus, causing fetal deformities. *Toxoplasma gondii* infection is a major factor in causing fetal deformities. Therefore, it is essential to undergo antibody tests for toxoplasmosis before marriage or pregnancy.
Crude Cottonseed Oil
Long-term consumption of crude cottonseed oil can cause a condition known as "sunstroke disease," with symptoms that appear after sun exposure, including general weakness, little sweat, hot and flushed skin, palpitations and shortness of breath, dizziness, numbness in the limbs, and loss of appetite. A more serious effect is the damage to the reproductive system. Experimental studies have shown that after rats were fed a diet containing crude cottonseed oil for about 4 months, their testes significantly shrank, spermatocytes were markedly reduced or even disappeared, the uterus shrank, and the endometrium and glands atrophied. The ovaries showed mild atrophy, and there was mild edema in the renal parenchymal cells. Adult men who took gossypol, an extract of crude cottonseed oil, at a dose of 60-70 mg per day for 40 days, had all their sperm killed in the short term, which gradually disappeared from their semen; in women, it can lead to amenorrhea or uterine atrophy. Therefore, young people of childbearing age should not consume it long-term.
