According to a report by Reuters on April 16, a study conducted by French scientists has preliminarily confirmed that consuming ginkgo nuts (also known as bai guo) can extend the lifespan of the elderly.
Researchers from the University of Bordeaux in France surveyed 3,545 people over the age of 65 and found that among those who took ginkgo nuts, 24% lived an average of 13 years longer than those who did not.
However, the study also had a surprising conclusion: ginkgo nuts have no significant effect on improving memory or preventing dementia. Previously, as a food known to enhance memory, ginkgo nuts have been sold in France for over 30 years.
The researchers found that after 13 consecutive years of consumption, elderly people who ate ginkgo nuts showed no significant difference in memory improvement compared to those who did not.
