Six Post-Meal Habits Comparable to Slow Suicide
Eating Fruit After Meals: Many people enjoy eating fruit after meals, believing it helps freshen the palate. In fact, this is an unhealthy habit. Eating fruit immediately after a meal can impair digestion. This is because food takes 1-2 hours to pass through the stomach. If you eat fruit right after, it gets blocked by the food you just ate and cannot be digested properly.
Drinking Strong Tea After Meals: Tea contains a large amount of tannic acid. Drinking strong tea after a meal causes undigested protein to bind with the tannic acid, forming precipitates that affect protein absorption. Substances in tea can also hinder the absorption of iron. Long-term habit of drinking strong tea after meals can easily lead to iron-deficiency anemia. Furthermore, drinking tea immediately after a meal introduces a large amount of water into the stomach, which dilutes digestive secretions and thus affects the stomach's digestive function.
Smoking After Meals: Some believe that "a cigarette after a meal is better than living like a god." In reality, this practice is extremely harmful to the body. After a meal, gastrointestinal motility is frequent, blood circulation accelerates, and the digestive system begins to work in full gear. Smoking at this time significantly increases the absorption of smoke by the lungs and body tissues, leading to a large intake of harmful components. This has a strong irritant effect on the respiratory and digestive tracts, undoubtedly causing much greater damage to the body's functions and tissues than smoking at other times.
Drinking Water After Meals: Drinking water immediately after a meal dilutes gastric juice, causing undigested food to move into the small intestine prematurely. This weakens the digestive power of gastric juice and can easily lead to gastrointestinal diseases. If the water consumed is carbonated soda, it is even more harmful. The carbon dioxide produced can easily increase intragastric pressure, leading to acute gastric dilation.
Singing Karaoke After Meals: After a large meal, the stomach capacity increases and blood flow to the stomach rises. Singing at this time causes the diaphragm to descend, increasing abdominal pressure. This can, at a minimum, cause indigestion, and in more severe cases, lead to other symptoms like gastrointestinal discomfort. Therefore, it is best to wait about an hour after a meal, once digestion has begun, before singing karaoke. Alternatively, you could sing first and then eat.
Driving After Meals: After eating, blood is concentrated in the stomach to aid digestion, causing the brain to be in a temporary state of ischemia. Driving in this condition can easily lead to operational errors and car accidents. Therefore, it is safer to wait for about an hour after a meal before driving.
