South Korean researchers recently published a report stating that eating a pear after a meal can help expel a large amount of carcinogens that accumulate in the human body. The survey results show that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, potent carcinogens that build up in the body from smoking or eating grilled meats, are significantly reduced after eating pears. Heated pear juice contains a higher amount of cancer-fighting substances—polyphenols. When mice injected with carcinogens were given this pear juice, their urine excreted a large amount of 1-hydroxypyrene toxin, thus preventing cancer. "Both pears and heated pear juice have the function of accelerating the expulsion of carcinogens from the body," experts point out. "In today's era when people are keen on eating fried and fast foods, eating a pear after a meal is a worthwhile healthy lifestyle to recommend."
