On September 5th, a British elderly woman celebrated her 110th birthday surrounded by four generations of her family. To the surprise of health experts, the centenarian revealed that her secret to a long life is her love for salty foods.
Mary Brown was born in 1897 into a farming family in Scotland, and this elderly woman has witnessed the changes of three centuries.
Mary has never driven a car in her life. In 1907, when she was just 10 years old, she and her brother Tom still traveled to school by horse-drawn carriage. Motorcycles had not even been invented back then. The elderly Mary still has vivid memories of that era. In 1923, Mary moved with her husband to the Edington Estate Farm in Guildford. She said that the application of electricity and the use of farm machinery were among the biggest changes she had ever witnessed.
When asked about her secret to a long life, Mary attributed it to her tireless spirit and her love for foods high in salt. She also emphasized that one should maintain a moderate attitude towards things and not rush into anything, in addition to family and friends.
Currently, Mary Brown lives in the Eastlake residential area of Surrey, UK. She has five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and her son George is already 78 years old. Mary's husband John passed away in 1950, and her eldest son passed away in 2002.
