Three types of vegetables are less susceptible to contamination.

When people eat vegetables, their biggest concern is pesticide residue pollution. Generally speaking, vegetables that are fragile and susceptible to pests require more pesticide application. However, some vegetables are either naturally "strong" or grow in excellent environments and can thrive without much pesticide protection. So, which vegetables can "emerge from the mud unstained"?

The first category consists of vegetables that are not easily infested by pests. They have strong resistance and therefore require less pesticide, such as cabbage, amaranth, celery, cauliflower, chili peppers, and radishes.

The second category includes vegetables whose edible parts grow underground, such as lotus root, potatoes, taro, turnips, and sweet potatoes.

The third category includes wild mushrooms and wild vegetables that grow in the wild according to the seasons, requiring no artificial care. Consequently, their safety coefficient is naturally higher. Commonly seen wild vegetables in the market include: bracken, shepherd's purse, Malan vegetable, purslane, and asparagus.

Conversely, most leafy vegetables are more frequently treated with pesticides, such as bok choy, rapeseed, and Shanghai greens. When eating these vegetables, they must be washed with extra care. Many people believe that vegetables with insect holes have less pesticide and are therefore safer. However, as pesticides become more widely used, the resistance of pests is also increasing. Some pesticides cannot stop insects from surviving but are still harmful to humans, so vegetables with insect holes should not be eaten carelessly either.

In addition, pesticide residue on leafy vegetables is also seasonal. Generally, more pesticides are used on green vegetables in the summer. When eating green vegetables in the summer, soak them in clean water for an hour to reduce pesticide contamination.
