Areca Nut
Areca nut is the seed of the areca palm, also known by various names such as Pinlang and Binmen. Since ancient times, it has been a fine fruit for residents in the southeastern coastal provinces of China to welcome guests and entertain friends. In ancient times, esteemed guests were respectfully called "Bin" or "Lang", hence the beautiful name "Areca Nut". Areca nut is warm, pungent, and non-toxic, with effects such as killing parasites, breaking up accumulations, promoting qi descent, and promoting urination. It is effective in treating conditions like parasite accumulation, food stagnation, abdominal bloating and pain, tenesmus after diarrhea, edema, and beriberi. Modern medical research shows that areca nut fruit contains many nutrients and beneficial substances needed by the human body, such as fats, areca oil, alkaloids, catechins, and choline. Fresh areca nut has a wonderful effect of "making the full feel hungry and the hungry feel full". When eaten on an empty stomach, it invigorates qi as if one were full; when eaten after a meal, it aids digestion. It can be called a fresh immortal fruit among mortals. The medical scientist Li Shizhen recorded in "Compendium of Materia Medica" that areca nut can treat many ailments such as "edema, joint pain, strengthening the spleen and regulating the middle jiao, and treating heart pain and accumulations". Moreover, areca nut is also effective in treating glaucoma, increased intraocular pressure, and expelling parasites.
Pomegranate
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, pomegranate is neutral in nature, sweet in taste, and slightly sour and astringent. It has the effects of promoting the production of body fluids to quench thirst, stopping diarrhea, and astringing the intestines. It is effective for conditions like insufficient body fluids, dry throat and thirst, insufficient stomach yin, and chronic dysentery. Pomegranate is exceptionally nutritious, containing many nutrients needed by the human body. The fruit contains vitamins C and B complex, organic acids, sugars, proteins, fats, and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. The pomegranate is a treasure, as its peel, roots, and flowers can all be used as medicine. Its peel contains malic acid, tannins, and alkaloids. According to relevant experiments, pomegranate peel has significant antibacterial and astringent effects. It can cause the intestinal mucosa to contract and reduce secretions, thus effectively treating diarrhea and dysentery, and has a good inhibitory effect on *Shigella* and *E. coli*.
Hawthorn
The hawthorn peel is bright red or purplish-red, the flesh is soft, and the fruit is spherical. It is a unique fruit variety in China, mostly cultivated in the north. Hawthorn is also called Shanlihong or Hongguo. When the fruit ripens, the mountains and fields are covered in a brilliant crimson, a spectacular sight. Hawthorn also contains large amounts of red pigment, hawthorn acid, flavonoids, lipase, and various medicinal ingredients. The flavonoid components in hawthorn contain a compound called vitexin, which has anti-cancer effects.
Pear
Pears have been a beloved fruit by the general public since ancient times and are extremely nutritious. According to measurements, pears contain about 85% water, 6%-9.7% fructose, 1%-3.7% glucose, and 0.4%-2.6% sucrose. In every 100 grams of edible portion, there are about 5 mg of calcium, 6 mg of phosphorus, 0.2 mg of iron, and 4 mg of vitamin C. In addition, pears also contain a certain amount of protein, fat, carotene, vitamins B1 and B2, and malic acid.
