Eating more soybeans can prevent hair loss.

The latest research report in the "Journal of Biological Reproduction" indicates that after digestion by the human body, soybeans can be transformed into small molecules that reduce the risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia and male pattern baldness. This is a truly exciting discovery for drug development.

In terms of known drug development outcomes, current drugs can inhibit the production of DHT to achieve therapeutic effects. However, this approach to drug development can lead to significant side effects. This new research found that "equol," a small molecule derived from the component soy isoflavones, does not affect the production of DHT but can inhibit its physiological regulatory responses in the human body, thus making it less likely to produce side effects.  Animal experiments have shown that injecting equol can reduce the size of the prostate. For castrated animals, injecting DHT stimulates prostate growth, whereas injecting equol has no such effect. When equol and DHT are injected together, it can inhibit the effects of DHT, preventing prostate development. In other words, equol does not change the level of DHT, but it can block its effects in the animal body.

Researchers state that when soybeans are digested and broken down by the human body, the small molecule "equol" is produced in the small intestine. This substance can prevent the binding of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) with the androgen receptor. Since DHT stimulates the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia and male pattern baldness, the digestion and absorption of soybean components can theoretically indirectly reduce the risk of these conditions.

Although further experiments are needed to confirm the influence of soybeans on the mode of action of male hormones, given the long history of soybean consumption in Asia, soy milk, tofu, soy skin, okara, and soy pudding are already a part of people's daily lives. Therefore, we do not need to worry about the safety of eating soybeans.
