Eating more vegetables is very beneficial to the body, but eating the "wrong" vegetables can be terribly damaging to the body. The following seven vegetables are highly toxic and must never be eaten! A diet that affects liver health.
1. Rootless bean sprouts
Some bean sprouts (especially soybean sprouts) are treated with herbicides during production, which makes the sprouts grow thick and rootless. Herbicides contain carcinogenic and other substances, and the rootless bean sprouts absorb these toxins. Therefore, this type of rootless bean sprout should not be eaten.
2. Old, long-stored pumpkins
They have a high sugar content, and due to prolonged storage, the flesh is prone to anaerobic alcoholic breakdown, which changes the quality of the pumpkin and is unhealthy to eat.
3. Rotten ginger
Rotten ginger produces a potent toxin—safrole. When consumed, it can cause liver cell poisoning and damage liver function. Therefore, when buying ginger, choose fresh, whole, large pieces of fresh ginger that are free from mold and spoilage.
4. Autumn lima beans and bean pods
These foods contain a clotting substance—lectin, which can cause blood clotting. It is a toxic protein. Their pods contain a hemolysin. The levels of these toxic components are particularly high in "old lima beans" that mature in autumn. If consumed, they often cause poisoning with symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. However, these toxins can be destroyed by high temperatures. Therefore, these vegetables should be stir-fried or cooked thoroughly at high temperatures before consumption.
5. Fresh wood ear mushrooms
Fresh wood ear mushrooms contain a light-sensitive substance called porphyrins. After consumption, exposure to sunlight can cause dermatitis, with symptoms like itching, swelling, and pain. In some individuals, throat swelling can lead to difficulty breathing. Therefore, it is only safe to eat dried wood ear mushrooms after they have been rehydrated.
6. Fresh daylilies
They contain a highly toxic substance called colchicine. If consumed, it will lead to poisoning. Symptoms of poisoning include nausea, diarrhea, headache, and thirst. In severe cases, it can even lead to coma. Therefore, fresh daylilies must be steamed, boiled, and dried before consumption.
7. Unripe tomatoes
They contain a toxic substance called solanine. Consumption can lead to poisoning with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and drooling. Eating them raw is even more harmful.
