Although soy milk is nutritious and an excellent choice for breakfast, it is not suitable for everyone. So, who should avoid drinking soy milk?
1. Individuals with acute gastritis and chronic superficial gastritis should avoid soy products to prevent excessive stomach acid secretion, which could worsen their condition, or cause gastrointestinal bloating.
2. Beans contain a certain amount of oligosaccharides, which can cause symptoms like belching, bowel sounds, and abdominal bloating. Therefore, people with stomach ulcers should consume them in moderation. Patients with gastritis and renal failure require a low-protein diet. Since beans and their products are rich in protein, their metabolic byproducts can increase the burden on the kidneys, so they should be avoided.
3. The oxalates in beans can bind with calcium in the kidneys, easily forming stones and aggravating the symptoms of kidney stones. Thus, kidney stone patients should also avoid consuming soy milk.
4. Gout is a disease caused by a disorder in purine metabolism. Soybeans are rich in purines, and as purines are hydrophilic, the purine content in soy milk is several times higher than in other bean products after grinding. Therefore, soy milk is not suitable for patients with gout.
