The taste of sprouts is always amazing, and they have a short growth cycle. You can usually grow your own sprouts at home, and they are ready to eat in about 1-2 weeks. No fertilizer is needed; just watering them regularly is sufficient. These sprouts have a great texture—they are crispy and rich in dietary fiber.
You can buy these sprouts at the supermarket, or you can grow them yourself. Growing mung bean sprouts or soybean sprouts is relatively simple. Below, I've posted a method for growing your own mung bean sprouts. Take a look and learn how.
1. According to your family's needs, choose an appropriate amount of fresh mung beans. Generally, enough for one meal for your family is sufficient. Then, wash the mung beans clean with water to remove impurities and substandard beans. Beans that float on the water are usually不合格 (substandard).
2. Place the selected mung beans in a clean container, add an appropriate amount of warm water until it covers the surface of the beans. Put the container in a well-ventilated place.
3. Soak the mung beans the night before. The next day, you will see that all the water in the basin has been absorbed, and the mung beans have sprouted small, white, tender shoots. Fold a clean cloth into three or four layers, moisten it with water, and line the bottom of a basket or sieve. Place the sprouts on top, then cover with another layer of the same cloth. Make sure it is covered tightly; do not let the mung beans be exposed to sunlight. Keep the basket or sieve empty so that the mung beans can breathe.
