Some foods, due to mold, spoilage, or being contaminated themselves, carry bacteria or viruses. If accidentally consumed, they can cause poisoning and harm to your health. The following foods should not be eaten.
I. Rotten Ginger
It produces a highly toxic substance called safrole. After being ingested, it is absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and quickly reaches the liver, causing widespread toxic degeneration of liver cells, causing significant harm to the human body, and can also induce esophageal cancer.
II. Unripe Green Tomatoes
They contain alkaloid glycosides (solanine). People who eat unripe green tomatoes often feel unwell; mildly, the mouth may feel bitter, and in severe cases, poisoning symptoms may occur.
II. Sprouted Potatoes
They contain solanine, a toxin with high toxicity. An adult consuming 200 milligrams can cause poisoning, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, numbness of the tongue, burning pain in the throat, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, and headache. In severe cases, it can lead to life-threatening conditions like cerebral congestion, convulsions, and coma.
III. Fresh Wood Ear Mushrooms
They contain a porphyrin-type photosensitive substance. After people consume fresh wood ear mushrooms, this substance circulates with the blood to the body's epidermal cells. When exposed to sunlight, it can induce solar dermatitis, causing skin itching, pain, redness, and swelling, with bright red papules and blisters appearing. In severe cases, it can even lead to necrosis of skin tissue. This toxic substance can also be absorbed by the pharyngeal mucosa, leading to symptoms such as pharyngeal edema, tearing, runny nose, general fatigue, and difficulty breathing.
IV. Fresh Daylilies
They contain "colchicine," which is oxidized into "dicolchicine" with high toxicity after being ingested. It strongly irritates the human gastrointestinal mucosa and respiratory system, causing symptoms such as thirst, dry throat, and tongue numbness. In severe cases, it can lead to severe poisoning symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and even bloody stools and urine.
