Elderly people should limit alcohol to 7 drinks per week.

If you are over 65 and still enjoying a few drinks every night, you should seriously consider changing this habit.

The latest research from American doctors shows that for people over 65, drinking more than one drink per day on average, or more than three drinks in a single day, is considered excessive drinking. Here, one drink is defined as a 355ml can of beer, a 250ml glass of red wine, or about 45g of a strong spirit like hard liquor.

American scientists reached this conclusion after studying 12,400 elderly people. The research indicates that about 10% of American seniors drink excessively. This can likely increase their chances of falling, accelerate aging, and interfere with the treatment of other diseases. At the same time, it is also not conducive to their social interactions.

In fact, the harms of excessive alcohol consumption are well-known. But what many people don't realize is that for those over 65, their safe upper limit for alcohol is so low. The safe limit of no more than 7 drinks per week and no more than 3 drinks per day is only about half of that for younger people.
