Pineapple is a refreshing fruit, and many people choose to eat it, especially when the weather is hot. Tan Guijun, a council member of the Municipal Nutrition Society, gives you tips on how to eat pineapple correctly.
Tan Guijun explains that eating too much pineapple can make your mouth feel numb and even cause a sore tongue. Before eating pineapple, it should be soaked in salt water for a period of time. Soaking pineapple in salt water can reduce irritation to the oral mucosa. However, since pineapple contains a lot of sugar, it should not be soaked in salt water for too long. After buying pineapple, it is best to soak it in salt water for half an hour before eating.
Tan Guijun reminds everyone that when eating pineapple, you should not do so on an empty stomach. A serving of about 100 grams is generally appropriate, and a maximum of half a pineapple is recommended. People with periodontitis, stomach ulcers, or oral mucosal ulcers should consume it with caution. Some individuals with allergic constitutions may have an allergic reaction after eating pineapple, which usually occurs within 15 minutes to 1 hour after consumption. The main symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, or headache, dizziness, and general itching. If these allergic symptoms appear, you should go to the hospital for treatment immediately.
