The common cold is a frequent illness, especially during this season. When you catch a cold, you should pay close attention to your diet to help you get through the period more comfortably.
1. Hard-to-digest food Choose easily digestible liquid foods such as vegetable soup, congee, egg drop soup, steamed egg custard, and milk.
2. Too greasy a diet The diet should be light and low in grease to meet nutritional needs while stimulating the appetite. You can have white rice congee, millet congee, or red bean congee, served with light and refreshing side dishes like sweet pickles, turnips, mustard pickles, or fermented tofu.
3. Insufficient fluid intake Ensure adequate fluid intake. You can drink more acidic fruit juices such as hawthorn juice, kiwi juice, jujube juice, fresh orange juice, or watermelon juice to promote gastric juice secretion and improve appetite.
4. Vitamin deficiency Eat more foods rich in vitamins C and E, as well as red-colored foods, such as tomatoes, apples, grapes, dates, strawberries, beets, oranges, watermelon, milk, and eggs, to prevent the onset of a cold.
5. Eating too much It is advisable to eat small, frequent meals. After the fever subsides and your appetite improves, you can switch to a semi-liquid diet, such as noodle soup in clear chicken broth, wonton soup, vegetable puree congee, meat floss congee, liver puree congee, or egg flower congee.
