Beware of Six Common Daily Food Pairings

Recently, an official from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Consumer Rights Protection Committee revealed to reporters that six common "misguided" food pairings can easily lead to various diseases when consumed together.

Pairing seafood with beer can easily induce gout. If you eat seafood while drinking beer, it will increase uric acid levels in the blood, leading to urinary tract stones. If a person has metabolic issues, eating seafood and drinking beer can cause a sharp rise in blood uric acid levels, resulting in gouty nephritis, gouty arthritis, and other conditions.

Pairing ham with lactic acid drinks can easily cause cancer. People who often eat sandwiches with yogurt for breakfast should be cautious. Ham, bacon, and other ingredients in sandwiches can easily become carcinogenic when consumed with lactic acid drinks. Because food manufacturers add nitrates to prevent meat products from spoiling, when nitrates are combined with organic acids, they transform into carcinogenic nitrosamines.

Mixing radishes with oranges can easily induce goiter. If you eat radishes along with large amounts of fruits like oranges, apples, and grapes, the flavonoids in the fruits will convert into thiocyanate, which inhibits thyroid function, and can induce goiter.

Eating eggs with soy milk reduces protein absorption. The trypsin inhibitor substances in raw soy milk combine with a substance in egg whites, which hinders protein breakdown and thus reduces the human body's absorption rate of protein.

Pairing milk with chocolate can easily cause diarrhea. The calcium in milk will combine with the oxalic acid in chocolate to form insoluble calcium oxalate. After consumption, this can lead to symptoms like diarrhea and dry hair.

Eating fruits while eating seafood is not easy to digest. If you eat seafood along with fruits like grapes, hawthorn, pomegranates, or persimmons, symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal bloating, and diarrhea may occur. This is because these fruits contain tannic acid, which combines with the protein in seafood to form indigestible substances. Therefore, after eating seafood, you should wait at least 4 hours before eating these fruits.
