Tofu is a common food in our daily lives. It is rich in protein and calcium, which can effectively supplement the nutrients needed by the human body. However, some foods are not good for your health when eaten with tofu. Let's take a look at which foods should not be eaten with tofu.
1. Cannot be eaten with honey
Tofu and honey are both nutritious foods, but they cannot be eaten together. Because tofu can clear heat and disperse blood, and purge turbid qi from the large intestine. Honey is sweet, cool, and slippery. When eaten together, these two can easily cause diarrhea. At the same time, honey contains various enzymes, while tofu contains various minerals, plant proteins, and organic acids. The mixture of the two can easily produce biochemical reactions that are unfavorable to the human body. Therefore, it is not advisable to eat honey after tofu, and even less so to eat them together.
2. Cannot be eaten with water bamboo
Water bamboo contains a relatively high amount of oxalic acid. When it encounters the calcium in tofu, it combines to form insoluble calcium oxalate, which can easily lead to stones if consumed together for a long time.
3. Cannot be eaten with mutton
Eating mutton with tofu can easily lead to jaundice and beriberi (vitamin B1 deficiency). Because tofu is made from soybeans, it is sweet and slightly cool in nature. Mutton is a food that generates heat and stirs up fire, which is the opposite of tofu's function. Long-term consumption of both together can affect health.
4. Cannot be eaten with beef
Tofu should not be eaten with beef, as it can easily cause one to become "dry and heaty" (a state of internal heatiness and dryness).
5. Cannot be eaten with bamboo shoots
Tofu contains calcium sulfate, while bamboo shoots contain oxalic acid. When these two foods come together, they can form calcium oxalate. This white precipitate not only affects the body's absorption of calcium but can also easily lead to lithiasis (stone formation).
6. Cannot be eaten with persimmons
Persimmons and tofu should not be eaten together. Persimmons contain a lot of tannic acid, and tofu contains calcium chloride. Eating them together can easily form a tannic acid calcium precipitate, leading to stone diseases such as gallstones and kidney stones. It is recommended to avoid this combination.
7. Cannot be eaten with crucian carp
Tofu should not be eaten with crucian carp, as it can easily cause edema (swelling).
8. Don't mix scallions with tofu
There is a common saying, "Scallions mixed with tofu — clear and white" (a metaphor for something obvious and simple). In reality, mixing scallions with tofu creates a situation that is "neither clear nor white." Because the oxalic acid in scallions easily combines with the calcium in tofu to form insoluble calcium oxalate, affecting the body's absorption of calcium. Long-term consumption can easily lead to stones.
