Vitamin C should not be taken with these foods; consuming them together is like taking poison. Vitamin C is an essential element for the human body, which can prevent scurvy and enhance immunity. But did you know? Vitamin C must never be taken with these things. Let's take a look below.
1. Pork Liver
When Vitamin C encounters trace metal ions, it is easily oxidized and destroyed, especially by copper ions. Pork liver is an extremely rich source of copper, containing about 2.6 mg of copper per 100 grams. If consumed with Vitamin C, the copper in pork liver can cause Vitamin C to lose its original biological function. Similarly, sheep liver and beef liver should also not be consumed together.
2. Milk
Vitamin C is acidic and has strong reducing properties, making it very easily oxidized. Milk is rich in Vitamin B2, which has certain oxidizing properties. When taken together, Vitamin C is easily oxidized by Vitamin B2, while Vitamin B2 is reduced. Both lose their effectiveness, failing to achieve the goal of vitamin supplementation.
3. Aspirin
Combining Aspirin with Vitamin C reduces the absorption of Vitamin C in the intestines, but Vitamin C does not affect the efficacy of Aspirin. Therefore, when both medications need to be taken, Vitamin C should be taken first, with at least a one-hour interval before taking Aspirin.
4. Seafood
Many seafoods, such as shrimp, crab, clams, and oysters, contain the chemical element arsenic. Generally, the content is very small, but increasingly serious environmental pollution may cause the arsenic content in these animals to reach high levels. The arsenic compound in shrimp is pentavalent. Under normal circumstances, pentavalent arsenic is harmless to the human body. Theoretically, a high dose of Vitamin C (a single intake of over 500 mg) and pentavalent arsenic can undergo complex chemical reactions to form toxic trivalent arsenic (the "arsenic" we often talk about). When the dose of trivalent arsenic reaches a certain level, it can cause poisoning in the human body.
5. Penicillin drugs
Penicillin drugs cannot be mixed with Vitamin C for intravenous drip. Because Vitamin C has strong reducing properties, it can decompose and destroy penicillin. Furthermore, every component in the Vitamin C injection can affect the stability of aminopenicillin, reducing its efficacy. Oral penicillin drugs, such as amoxicillin and penicillin V potassium tablets, work better under alkaline conditions. Taking them with slightly acidic Vitamin C may reduce the effectiveness of penicillin in an acidic environment. Therefore, if you need to take Vitamin C while taking penicillin drugs, it is recommended to wait 1-2 hours between doses.
Editor's note: The above are several foods that cannot be taken with Vitamin C. Everyone must pay attention when consuming them.
