Dates are rich in vitamins A and C, various amino acids, and trace elements such as calcium and iron. They also contain triterpenoids, which have anti-fatigue effects and can enhance endurance. Furthermore, they are abundant in cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a substance that can dilate blood vessels. This not only improves the nutritional condition of the heart muscle but also enhances blood flow to the penis, increasing the firmness of an erection. The famous ancient medical text, *Ming Yi Bie Lu*, explicitly states that dates can "strengthen muscles and bones, assist vital energy, and make one robust and healthy." Men with qi deficiency and kidney insufficiency who often eat dates can experience a significant increase in libido.
Although dates are excellent for nourishing the body, moistening qi and blood, and have an aphrodisiac effect, men with the following four constitutions are not suitable for eating them.
1. Those with excessive phlegm-dampness
Such individuals often exhibit a thick, greasy tongue coating, a sweet or sticky sensation in the mouth, poor appetite, and a feeling of abdominal fullness. In severe cases, symptoms may include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and swelling of the eyelids and face. The moist and greasy nature of dates can easily exacerbate dampness, causing phlegm-dampness to accumulate in the body and be difficult to eliminate, thereby worsening the aforementioned discomfort. People with this constitution are better off consuming foods that strengthen the spleen and promote dampness drainage, such as Job's tears, red beans, Chinese yam, and loofah.
2. Those who are prone to "internal heat"
People with this constitution tend to have a "heat" bias and frequently experience symptoms of "internal heat" such as constipation, bad breath, and swelling and pain in the throat and gums. Dates are sweet and warm in nature, leaning towards a warming tonic. Consuming them in large quantities would be like "adding fuel to the fire."
3. Patients in the early stages of a cold
During the initial phase of a cold, the pathogenic factors of wind-cold or wind-heat are actively invading the body. Eating dates at this time, due to their sticky nature, can often cause these pathogenic factors to stagnate, leading to a "closing the door to keep the thief inside" scenario. This makes it difficult for the body to expel the pathogens and hinders recovery.
4. Diabetic patients
Dates contain a significant amount of sugar, which can raise blood sugar levels in diabetic patients and worsen their condition.
Kind reminder:
Additionally, do not consume more than 20 dates per day. Excessive consumption can impair digestive function and lead to constipation.
