Recently, a new Chinese study published in the FASEB Journal found that eating chicory helps alleviate memory decline.
In the new study, to test the effect of chicoric acid, a key substance in chicory, on memory, researchers from Northwest A&F University in China conducted a comparative study using experimental mice. The results showed that compared to the control group, the mice injected with chicoric acid had better learning and memory abilities. The researchers analyzed that chicoric acid, the key extract from chicory, helps prevent the formation of toxic clumps (amyloid plaques) in the brain. Such plaques affect brain function and reduce cognitive abilities like memory. Therefore, regularly eating vegetables containing chicoric acid, such as chicory and endive, can help enhance memory.
