Dr. Batmanghelidj, a PhD from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, University of London, points out in his book "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" that the amount of water you drink is closely related to certain diseases. Insufficient water intake can pave the way for diseases such as stroke and obesity. Learning to drink water correctly not only has preventive and therapeutic effects on diseases but can also effectively alleviate pain.
After observing over 3,000 patients, Batmanghelidj found that conditions like asthma, allergies, depression, and stomach ulcers are related to water intake. He also summarized several major benefits of drinking water correctly, including:
Disease Prevention: Water can prevent blockages in the heart and brain blood vessels;
Improved Immunity: Water can boost the immune system's vitality to fight bacterial invasion;
Anti-depression: Water helps replenish the neurotransmitter serotonin;
Anti-insomnia: Water is essential for producing the natural sleep regulator melatonin;
Source of Vitality: Water supplies cells with natural energy;
Cancer Prevention: Water keeps the hematopoietic system functioning properly, helping to prevent various types of cancer;
Enhanced Concentration: Drinking water helps the brain stay active and firmly stores new information in the "memory bank."
Batmanghelidj also proposed using "water therapy" to improve physical health. Water therapy involves drinking sufficient water, typically 6-8 glasses a day, distributed evenly throughout the day; maintaining a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits; avoiding coffee and alcohol; and exercising regularly.
Batmanghelidj also emphasized that water should be consumed before meals, preferably 30 minutes beforehand, especially for those suffering from gastritis, duodenitis, stomach ulcers, colitis, and excessive gas due to indigestion, as this prepares the gastrointestinal tract for digesting food. Additionally, one should drink water first thing in the morning after waking up to compensate for dehydration caused by a long period of sleep.
