Three types of fruits are recommended for treating gastritis.

For certain diseases, fruits are not only rich in nutrients but also aid in recovery. However, for superficial gastritis, not every fruit is suitable. If one is not careful, consuming fruits containing tannic acid can easily lead to acid reflux and an upset stomach. So, what fruits should be eaten with superficial gastritis?

1. Sweet and sour in taste, slightly warm in nature

Golden oranges, fresh lychees, fresh longans (dragon eyes), and cherries. These fruits have the effect of strengthening the spleen and replenishing qi, warming the middle energizer and nourishing the stomach. They are more suitable for patients with weak spleen and stomach, food stagnation and qi stagnation (often feeling bloated and uncomfortable after eating), reduced food intake and fatigue (eating less and feeling tired), nausea, diarrhea, and loose stools.

2. Sweet and sour in taste, neutral in nature

Oranges, peaches, apricots, pomegranates, figs, grapes, waxberries, papayas, dark plums, and apples. These fruits have the effect of tonifying the spleen and benefiting the stomach, replenishing qi and generating fluids, harmonizing the stomach to stop nausea, and astringing to stop diarrhea. They are applicable to conditions such as weak spleen and stomach, indigestion, reduced appetite, nausea with poor food intake, and loose stools or diarrhea.

3. Bitter and sour in taste, cool in nature

Pears, mandarins, oranges, grapefruits, persimmons, plums, loquats, bananas, pineapples, monk fruit, watermelon, sugarcane, water chestnuts, kiwis, tomatoes, lemons, and olives. These fruits have the effect of benefiting the stomach and generating fluids, whetting the appetite and guiding qi downward, clearing heat and relieving vexation, and are used for symptoms such as epigastric upset and acid reflux, dry heaving and hiccups, food stagnation and epigastric fullness, or yin injury from febrile diseases, dry stools, and scanty, dark urine. This category of fresh fruits is relatively cool and cold in nature, and is not suitable for patients with a weak and cold spleen and stomach, cold pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, or loose stools and diarrhea.
