When choosing food, the nose sometimes plays a decisive role. For instance, foods with "strange" smells, like durian and toon sprouts, make a few people's mouths water; but for most people, they are "unbearable to smell"... Little do they know, many of these strange-smelling foods around us can help protect women's health.
Toon Sprouts Can Aid Fertility
Studies have shown that toon sprouts contain vitamin E and substances related to sex hormones, possessing anti-aging and nourishing yang and nourishing yin effects. They are also effective to some extent for infertility and are thus hailed as a "fertility-aiding substance."
Professor Li Huiming explains that toon sprouts contain volatile aromatic organic compounds such as toonin, which can strengthen the spleen to whet the appetite. They also have the effects of clearing heat, promoting urination, and detoxifying, making them a good remedy for assisting in the treatment of enteritis, dysentery, and urinary tract infections.
Durian Can Relieve Menstrual Cramps
Durian has a strong smell, and it's no exaggeration to say it "stinks to high heaven." However, in Thailand, due to its high nutritional value, durian is often used as a tonic to nourish patients and postpartum women.
Professor Li Huiming from the Department of Nutrition at Xiangya Hospital of Central South University told reporters that durian is a "hot" natured food that can invigorate blood and dispel cold, alleviating menstrual cramps. It is especially suitable for women troubled by menstrual pain. It can also improve symptoms of a cold abdomen, promote a rise in body temperature, and is an ideal tonic for people with a "cold" constitution. Furthermore, a folk traditional dietary remedy is to boil the durian rind with pork bones to make soup.
Professor Li Huiming also reminds that although durian has many benefits, one should not eat too much at once, as it can easily lead to a "heaty" body. It can also cause "internal heat" because the digestive system cannot fully absorb it.
When eating durian, it's a good idea to drink some light salt water or eat fruits with high water content to balance it, such as pears and watermelon, which can effectively relieve the heatiness. The best partner for durian is the mangosteen, known as the "Queen of Fruits," which can tame the "King's" fiery nature and protect the body from harm.
