Pickled foods: Including foods such as pickles, Zha cai, cured meat, salted fish, broad bean paste, and various types of preserved fruits, these foods contain excessively high salt content. They not only can trigger diseases like high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis but can also damage the cerebral arteries, causing ischemia and hypoxia in brain cells, leading to decreased memory and intellectual dullness in children.
Overly savory foods: Foods containing monosodium glutamate (MSG) can cause severe zinc deficiency in children under one year old. As zinc is one of the most critical trace elements for brain development, even when children are older, parents should limit their intake of overly savory foods with large amounts of MSG, such as various puffed snacks, dried fish, and instant noodles.
Fried and smoked foods: Fats in fish and meat, when deep-fried in oil at temperatures above 200°C or exposed to the sun for extended periods, can easily convert to lipid peroxides. These substances can cause premature aging of the brain and directly impair brain development.
Lead-containing foods: Excess lead in the bloodstream is difficult to excrete and can directly damage the brain. Popcorn, century eggs, and beer contain relatively high levels of lead. Additionally, the sealing lids of traditional tin and glass cans also contain a certain amount of lead. Therefore, parents should also limit their children's intake of these "canned foods."
Aluminum-containing foods: When making youtiao (fried dough sticks) and youbing (fried savory pancakes), alum is added as a leavening agent. Alum (aluminum oxide) has a high aluminum content, and frequent consumption can lead to memory decline and slow reactions. Therefore, parents should encourage their children to break the habit of eating youtiao and youbing for breakfast.
