What are the benefits of drinking grape juice?

Scientists have recently completed the first scientific analysis of antioxidant components in 13 types of juice. Various antioxidants in fruits and vegetables, such as vitamin C, are believed to have the function of fighting free radicals and play an important role in anti-aging, preventing cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and other chronic diseases.

According to the research findings, Concord grape juice topped the list of healthy juices, followed by apple juice and cranberry juice. Orange juice, which is the most common and popular, ranked relatively low. It is reported that the polyphenols in orange juice—a strong antioxidant component—are less than in the other tested juices.

This research was led by Professor Derek Crozier of Plant Biochemistry and Human Nutrition at the University of Glasgow in the UK. He stated that the study targeted 13 popular juices in the UK.

“Concord grape juice contains the most and the widest variety of polyphenols, thus possessing the highest antioxidant capacity. Other juices that are more effective for anti-aging include apple juice and cranberry juice,” Crozier said. Regular consumption of a variety of juices

It is reported that American scientists had previously discovered that long-term juice consumption could reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, which led to the University of Glasgow's research. The researchers tracked the health status of 2,000 volunteers over the past 10 years and found that people who drank juice at least 3 times a week had a 76% lower risk of developing Alzheimer's than those who drank juice less than once a week.

The University of Glasgow's research found that drinking a variety of juices yielded better anti-aging effects than drinking a single type of juice, as this allows the human body to intake a greater variety of polyphenol antioxidants.

Professor Crozier said: “A healthy diet, with regular consumption of a variety of juices—such as Concord grape juice, grapefruit juice, apple juice, and cranberry juice—can enhance the body's anti-aging capabilities.” Effects comparable to fine red wine

The study also found that the antioxidant polyphenols in Concord grape juice are comparable to those in the world's best-selling French Beaujolais red wine.

It is understood that this research was funded by the National Grape Consortium, which is composed of some American farmers. The research results have been published in the latest issue of the American Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
