Liver Specialist's Tips for a Healthy Liver

Professor Dang Zhongqin, Director of the Gastroenterology Department at Henan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has five tips for liver protection. Do not drink alcohol. If you can avoid it, don't drink. If you must, drink as little as possible. Even when drinking is unavoidable, know your limit and stop after a small amount.

Eat fresh food. Try to eat fresh vegetables, fruits, milk, etc., and try to eat less of pickled vegetables and fried foods.

Only eat homemade pickles that have been pickled for a short period of time, and try to avoid street-side barbecue, cold salads, etc. When eating hot pot, try to choose individual pots to basically avoid the occurrence of digestive tract infectious diseases.

The dietary principle is: high in vitamins, high in protein, low in fat, and low in sugar. Manage anger and reduce stress. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that "anger damages the liver." If you are in a bad mood, learn to "distract yourself." If you encounter unhappy things at work, go home immediately after work. If you encounter unhappy things in life, go out for a walk. Combine work with rest, because fatigue will increase the burden on the liver. When sick, take Traditional Chinese Medicine first. Be cautious with medications that can damage the liver.

The medication principle is: use Traditional Chinese Medicine or Chinese patent medicine instead of chemical drugs whenever possible. It is best to have guidance from a specialist doctor when taking medication. The dosage should not be too large, and the duration of taking medication should not be too long. "Stop the medication once the condition is cured," meaning stop taking the medicine as soon as you get better. Get booster vaccinations in a timely manner. The antibody titer of the hepatitis B vaccine will gradually decrease over time, so do not neglect regular check-ups. Generally, the hepatitis B vaccine should be boosted again every 3 to 5 years.
