Patient with Hepatitis Should Eat Less Canned Food

Currently, canned food is popular among consumers for its convenience and ease of preservation. However, experts from Xinqiao Hospital of the Third Military Medical University remind that to prevent spoilage, canned food contains a certain amount of preservatives. These preservatives have no adverse effects on the health of the general population, but they are quite harmful to patients with hepatitis.

Experts from Xinqiao Hospital of the Third Military Medical University stated that regardless of whether it's hepatitis A, hepatitis B, or other types of hepatitis, patients have similar pathological changes in their livers, including liver cell degeneration, necrosis, and regeneration, as well as stromal tissue hyperplasia and inflammatory infiltration, among which liver cell degeneration and necrosis are more prominent. Due to liver cell damage, the detoxification function of the liver, the body's largest detoxification organ, is reduced. If hepatitis patients consume too much canned food, the preservatives cannot be metabolized and will accumulate, worsening liver cell damage and making the condition more severe. Therefore, hepatitis patients should try to eat less canned food and primarily follow a light diet.
