One Orange a Day Can Prevent Stomach Cancer
Eating one orange a day can cut the risk of cancer of the mouth, esophagus, and stomach by half, according to the latest research findings from Australian scientists, which were recently released. The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia has also found that consuming citrus fruits daily can reduce the risk of stroke by 19%.
Citrus fruits are antioxidants, boost the immune system, inhibit the growth of tumor cells, and can cause tumor cells to revert to normal cells. Australian scientists state that among all fruits, citrus fruits contain the highest levels of antioxidants, with more than 170 phytochemicals, including over 60 flavonoids and 17 types of carotenoids. Flavonoids have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and blood vessel-strengthening effects, as well as the ability to inhibit blood clotting, while carotenoids have potent antioxidant properties. These combined physiological active components give citrus fruits their inhibitory effect on the development of various cancers.
