A new study shows that young women who drink one or two glasses of alcohol a day, especially red wine, can reduce their risk of stroke by 60%.
Previous studies have confirmed that moderate drinking is beneficial for the heart in men and middle-aged and elderly people, but this study is the first to prove that moderate drinking is also beneficial for young women. The research report, published in the January issue of the "Journal of the American Heart Association - Stroke", states that researchers surveyed a total of 600 women aged between 15 and 44, including 224 women who had a stroke last year. The survey found that women who drank alcohol in the past week, averaging one to two glasses a day, had a 40% to 60% lower risk of stroke than those who never drank.
The researchers said that wine has a stronger preventive effect than beer and alcoholic beverages, and that women who drink wine can also reduce the risk of stroke caused by high blood pressure and cholesterol, while the effect of beer and alcoholic beverages in this regard is relatively small.
