According to reports, there are currently over a hundred types of foreign fruits on the market. The more familiar ones to the public include grapes, Red Delicious apples, Navel oranges, plums, crystal pears, kiwis, lemons, and mangoes. Because imported foreign fruits are selected from the best of the best and are preserved using advanced foreign technology and modern packaging, they share common characteristics such as uniform size, bright color, rich texture, and long shelf life.
Below, we will give a brief introduction to the most popular types among consumers.
Red Grapes: Originally from the United States and Chile. Unlike the brownish-red of common grapes, Red Grapes are a deep red. They have a consistent shape, uniform size, and are sold intact without loose berries. They are firm to the touch. They have a crisp, sweet taste with a fibrous texture. With common grapes, the skin and flesh separate easily when squeezed. However, Red Grape skins are thinner and adhere tightly to the flesh, making them hard to separate. They can be stored for about 15 days under normal conditions (without any special treatment).
US Navel Oranges: Originally from the United States and Australia. Commonly known as US Navel oranges, they are similar to the Navel oranges from Zigui and Fengjie in Hubei province. They are larger in size with a rougher skin compared to the smoother-skinned Navel oranges. They taste juicy, crisp, and sweet, but have coarser fibers and are not as delicate as Navel oranges. They can be stored for over 30 days under normal conditions.
Red Delicious Apples: Originally from the United States, they are similar to the new Red Star apples from Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. Red Delicious apples are red in color and have a slightly sweet and sour taste.
Kiwifruit: The main difference between kiwifruit and Chinese gooseberries (kiwifruit) is that kiwifruit tastes best when firm, whereas Chinese gooseberries must be fully ripe to taste good; they are astringent when eaten unripe. Under normal conditions, kiwifruit can be stored for about 20 days.
Plums: Originally from the United States, they are similar to the Jinhua plums of China. They have a uniform size, a smooth and delicate surface, and are red in color. They taste the same as Jinhua plums when eaten firm, but they have a smaller pit, more flesh, and an especially good texture. Under normal conditions, they can be stored for about 20 days.
Crystal Pears: Originally from Japan, despite the similar name to the Crystal Ya Pear of Hebei province, their shape and taste are completely different. Crystal Pears are larger, have a heavy feeling in the hand, and are a deep yellow. The unique feature of the Crystal Pear is its round shape, which is more like an apple than a pear. They are exceptionally crisp to eat. Under normal conditions, they can be stored for about 30 days.
