Eating more fruits and vegetables is beneficial for male sperm quality.

Spanish researchers point out that male sperm quality depends on the amount of antioxidants they consume from fruits and vegetables.

According to a United Press International report on September 9, Jaime Mendiola, a scholar from the University of Murcia in Spain who led the study, said their research published in March had already shown that men who frequently eat fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products have higher sperm quality compared to men who often eat large amounts of meat and full-fat dairy products.

However, the latest research explains the reason why the latter group has higher sperm quality: they consume more antioxidants from fruits and vegetables.

The study found that men with high sperm quality consumed more vegetables and fruits than men with low sperm quality. These foods contain more vitamins, folic acid, and plant fiber, while having lower levels of protein and fat.

The researchers noted that it is currently unclear what the difference is between natural vitamins from food and vitamin supplements, and their next step will be to specifically study the effects of vitamin supplements.
