Pork is a food we almost eat every day, so do you know which foods should not be eaten with pork?
1. Pork and Beef
"Yin Zheng Yao" (Essentials of Dietetics) states: "Pork should not be eaten with beef." This is mainly from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine. First, from the perspective of medicinal properties of food, pork is sour, cold, and slightly cool, while beef has a sweet and warm nature, with the effect of stabilizing the middle and replenishing qi. The two are one warm and one cold, one tonifying the spleen and stomach, and the other cold, greasy, and weakening the body. Their properties are in conflict, so they are not suitable to be eaten together.
2. Pork and Sheep Liver
Traditional Chinese Medicine says: "Eating pork with sheep liver causes heart palpitations." From the perspective of medicinal properties, the combination is not advisable.
Sheep liver has a strong gamey smell. When stir-fried with pork, it is easy to produce a strange flavor. From a culinary perspective, it is also not suitable.
3. Pork and Soybeans
From the perspective of modern nutrition, soybeans are not suitable to be eaten with pork because soybeans have a high phytic acid content, with 60%-80% of phosphorus existing in the form of phytic acid. It often forms complexes with proteins and mineral elements, affecting the availability of both and reducing their utilization efficiency. Because soybeans bind with minerals such as calcium, iron, and zinc in lean meats and other non-vegetarian foods, they can interfere with and reduce the body's absorption of these elements.
4. Pork and Coriander
Coriander is pungent and warm, which consumes qi and harms the spirit. Pork is greasy and helps dampness-heat to produce phlegm. One consumes qi while the other provides no nourishment. Therefore, eating them together is harmful to the body. Coriander, also known as cilantro, can remove fishy smells and is suitable to be eaten with mutton.
