Recently, the Journal of Food Science in the U.S. published a new South Korean study which found that, in addition to drinking more water and getting more rest, eating asparagus can also help sober up and protect the liver after drinking.
A recent study by the Korean Institute of Medical Research and Jeju National University showed that the amino acids and minerals in asparagus and asparagus leaf extracts can alleviate hangover symptoms and protect liver cells from the damage of alcohol toxins.
Researchers analyzed the protective effects of asparagus and asparagus leaf extracts on human and mouse liver cells in a laboratory. The new research findings prove that the biological functions of asparagus help to alleviate the symptoms of drunkenness and protect the liver. The researchers stated that the concentration of amino acids and minerals in asparagus leaves is higher than in asparagus, making it more effective for sobering up and protecting the liver.
