Women who regularly eat whole wheat bread may be infertile
According to a March 3 report in the Daily Mail, can a healthy diet really reduce a woman's chances of getting pregnant? A new study has found that eating high-fiber foods might decrease a woman's fertility. High-fiber foods such as whole wheat bread or pasta could lead to endocrine disorders in women.
The more of these foods women consume, the lower the levels of hormones crucial for pregnancy become. U.S. researchers conducted a two-year follow-up study on 250 women of childbearing age. They found that not only did a high-fiber diet lower the pregnancy hormones in these women, but it also increased the incidence of anovulation. This means that a woman has a menstrual cycle but does not ovulate. Scientists had previously known that extreme exercise, anxiety, or stress can lower hormone levels in women, leading to anovulation. However, this is the first study to focus on the health risks of this phenomenon.
