1. Fish Sticks

Generally, fried fish sticks are made from cod, a fish rich in healthy unsaturated fatty acids (like DHA). Consequently, various fish sticks and fillet products have labeled themselves as "nutritious." However, please note that the packaging for cod fillets often lists a dozen or more ingredients. The extensive processing has made them much less healthy—loaded with salt, MSG, and saturated fat from frying. Therefore, if you buy processed fish products, the harm they may cause to your health could outweigh the benefits.

2. Canned Soup

Soups are very healthy, inexpensive, and easy to make. However, canned soup is a "mixture" with very low nutritional value, made from salt, fat, artificial additives, preservatives, and perhaps some dehydrated carrots. A single can of soup contains about 1000 milligrams of sodium, nearly half of your daily recommended intake. So, it's better to prepare your own soup with chicken, beef bones, and vegetables to make a steaming, fragrant bowl.

3. Green Tea

Asians generally love green tea, even elevating it to an art form. Green tea contains antioxidants and other healthy components that can prevent cancer, heart disease, aging, and other age-related diseases. However, most Americans don't like the taste, so manufacturers add sugar and other additives to create green tea beverages, which are sold everywhere under the guise of a healthy drink. In fact, any ingredient listed on a "green tea" bottle, such as saccharin or preservatives, makes it less healthy for us.

4. Yogurt

Yogurt is made by fermenting fresh milk and is rich in protein, calcium, and vitamins. For those who are lactose intolerant and can't drink milk, yogurt can be a great choice. But the yogurt sold in major U.S. supermarkets has been turned into a "dessert" full of sugar and various processed fruits. Merchants use this "packaging" to disguise it as a health food. Therefore, it's best to choose plain non-fat yogurt when purchasing and add your own fruit if necessary.

5. Russet Potatoes

Russet potatoes from Iowa are cheaper and easier to grow than common potatoes. However, after consumption, the starch in these potatoes quickly converts to blood sugar, increasing the risk of diabetes and obesity. Because their taste isn't very good, many people have to take measures to make them tastier: boil them, mash them, add butter, or peel and deep-fry them, then sprinkle salt on top. Foods prepared this way are even less healthy.

6. Popcorn

Nowadays, people no longer consider popcorn a healthy food like they used to. In fact, popcorn is made from corn, which is rich in fiber, low in calories, and contains almost no sugar, salt, or fat. However, modern microwave popcorn is loaded with many added ingredients to improve its taste, so it is no longer a healthy and nutritious food. It's a good choice to buy inexpensive bulk popcorn and to control the amount of salt and butter you add yourself.

7. Bread

The most common bread in the U.S. is the mass-produced white loaf. High-quality bread is indeed made just from flour, water, plus a small amount of salt and yeast. However, today's packaged white bread contains sugar, corn syrup, and many other ingredients. Once you swallow food processed this way, it quickly converts to blood sugar. Even many mass-produced whole wheat breads are harmful to health because they use "harmful substances" to improve their texture: sugar, salt, and softeners. It's best to choose raisin oat bread or barley bread spread with pure fruit jam.

8. Breakfast Cereals, Corn Flakes

Grains such as wheat, barley, rice, and oats have always been humanity's most important food. The protein, dietary fiber, and vitamins they contain are incomparable to other foods. However, food manufacturers have exploited the word "grain" to make a huge profit. They combine a small amount of grain with large amounts of starch, white sugar, corn syrup, salt, food coloring, and preservatives to produce "colorful" breakfast cereals that are very popular with children, greatly reducing the nutritional value of these grains.

9. Commercial Organic Foods

Organic foods are grown naturally without any pesticides or fertilizers and are almost seen as the "savior" in an era of widespread food pollution. For over 30 years, we have been pursuing this goal. But driven by profit, its nutritional value system is beginning to face a crisis. The organic milk we drink now comes from cattle that are force-fed organic grain in confinement. There are also various "junk foods" labeled "containing organic ingredients" that disguise themselves as healthy foods through organic labels. How much organic content they contain is known only to the manufacturer.

10. Pizza

In Italy, pizza is even legally protected, stipulating that it must be made from whole wheat flour, tomato sauce, white cheese, olive oil, basil, and other spices. Pizza is originally very nutritious. However, the pizzas sold by many fast-food chains today use preservatives, cheap artificial fats, nutritionless canned fruits, long-freezable meats, and a large amount of salt... These pizzas are very high in calories and sodium content, but their nutritional value is negligible.
