Men, Ease Stress with a Few Fresh Jujubes

When it comes to stress relief, people instinctively turn to men who have long shouldered the responsibilities of work, family, and society. Now, experts from Singapore are offering advice on how men can de-stress. They suggest that with the upcoming season for fresh jujubes, eating a few crisp and sweet ones can help alleviate stress.

Fresh jujubes are rich in Vitamin C, which aids in the secretion of adrenal cortex hormones.

Because the skin of fresh jujubes contains a large amount of insoluble fiber, it's best not to "swallow them whole." Chew them slowly to avoid discomfort like bloating. In fact, chewing slowly is also a way to release stress and calm your mind. Also, avoid eating fresh jujubes on an empty stomach or before bedtime, as this can cause heartburn. Office workers might consider having them as a snack around 10 AM or 3-4 PM.

Furthermore, regularly eating fresh jujubes can help prevent gallstones. The high amount of insoluble fiber in the jujube skin reduces the reabsorption of bile acids in the enterohepatic circulation. With fewer bile acids, the probability of stone formation is consequently reduced.

Fresh jujubes are sweet, crisp, and juicy, but they don't store well. They will lose their crisp texture within a few days at room temperature, and storing them in the refrigerator for too long can lead to a loss of Vitamin C. Therefore, don't buy too many at once; it's best to buy them fresh as you need them.

To relieve stress, you can also eat other foods rich in Vitamin C, such as kiwis, oranges, tangerines, broccoli, and asparagus.
