Seven Factors That Cause Unexplained Fatigue
In the immense pressure of modern life, it's normal to feel tired after a busy day. After all, it was a fulfilling one. But did you know that persistent, unexplained fatigue can be caused by a variety of factors? What are these reasons exactly?
Why Do You Still Feel Tired Even When You're Well-Fed and Well-Rested
According to a recent report from the American "WebMD," many women in modern society often feel inexplicably tired.
Dr. Nika Goldberg, a professor of women's health at the NYU Medical Center in New York, and Dr. Rebecca Amaru, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, point out that there are seven main causes of fatigue in women. If you feel tired for a consecutive week, it's time to consider seeing a doctor.
Cause 1: Anemia
Anemia causes low levels of hemoglobin, which is responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body. When the body's tissues don't get enough oxygen, a person feels fatigued. Women can develop anemia due to excessive blood loss during menstruation or after childbirth. Additionally, deficiencies in iron, folic acid, or vitamin B12 can also cause anemia.
If you often feel tired, weak, have cold hands and feet, or experience dizziness, you should consider whether you have anemia. If the answer is yes, it's best to eat more spinach and red meat. Once the anemia is treated, the fatigue symptoms will disappear in less than 30 days.
Cause 2: A Sign of Poor Heart Health
If you feel unprecedentedly tired after cleaning the house, gardening, or working for extended periods, be careful of heart disease.
Experts point out that many women are unaware that their hearts are already having problems. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in women. Detecting and treating heart disease early can alleviate fatigue.
Cause 3: Excessive Caffeine Intake
People love to drink coffee and cola to stay alert. However, for women, excessive caffeine intake can have the opposite effect, causing fatigue and drowsiness.
Women who often feel tired should drink less coffee and tea and eat less chocolate.
Cause 4. Food Allergies
Food provides energy, but if the body is allergic to a certain food, a person can feel drowsy all day. Fatigue is an early symptom of food allergies. You should eat less or avoid foods that cause allergic symptoms.
Cause 5. Snoring
Overweight women are prone to snoring during sleep, which disrupts the sleep cycle and leaves them exhausted. These women should lose weight and quit smoking, otherwise their risk of stroke will increase significantly.
Cause 6. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
After developing a UTI, women may not necessarily experience a burning sensation or urgency to urinate, but they will feel fatigued. In most cases, a UTI is caused by bacteria in the urethra and can be treated with oral antibiotics, with the fatigue disappearing within a week.
Cause 7. Hypothyroidism
If you feel lethargic and depressed, it could be a sign of an underactive thyroid. According to the American Thyroid Association, nearly 20% of women over 60 experience fatigue due to thyroid dysfunction, but most are unaware of it.
At this point, supplementing with the corresponding hormones can improve thyroid function and relieve fatigue.
