Don't drink milk when you have diarrhea
As the weather turns cool in autumn, people are prone to diarrhea. During this time, it's best to choose foods that are low in fiber and residue, low in fat, light, and easy to digest.
In the initial stages of diarrhea, it's best to consume some liquid foods, such as thick congee, thin arrowroot starch, almond cream, defatted meat broth, light tea, and filtered juices. As the condition improves, you can move on to semi-liquid foods like noodles, noodle sheets, white congee, and steamed egg custard. However, do not drink milk. Although milk does not contain dietary fiber, it can increase residue in the intestines, worsening the condition. Additionally, it's important to eat smaller, more frequent meals, and food should not be too cold, as this can cause increased intestinal motility.
If it's chronic diarrhea lasting for a long time, it can lead to a certain loss of nutrients in the body. Therefore, it's best to choose foods that can replenish nutrients while being gentle on the intestines. Common choices include: grains like congee, rice porridge, steamed fermented foods, bread, soft noodles, and noodle sheets; eggs: any preparation except fried; meats: tender lean meat, chicken, fish, and shrimp, preferably cooked until soft and tender; legumes: soy milk and tofu; vegetables: low-fiber vegetables such as peeled carrots, potatoes, pumpkin, winter melon, eggplant, and loofah, but remember to cook them thoroughly; sweet snacks: crackers, arrowroot starch, and cake.
When you have diarrhea, it's best to avoid certain foods. These include various coarse grains, old corn, and nuts; raw vegetables and fruits. Some people believe that the more you have diarrhea, the more you should eat easily digestible vegetables. This idea is wrong. Many high-fiber vegetables, such as celery, leeks, bean sprouts, and bamboo shoots, can actually worsen the condition. Foods like onions and raw radish that can cause gas should also be eaten in moderation. Among fruits, avoid pineapple and strawberries.
Furthermore, it's best to avoid fried foods when you have diarrhea. For cooking methods, you should opt for steaming, boiling, and stewing more often.
