These Six Types of Eggs Should Absolutely Not Be Eaten
Eggs are nutritious and can supplement the body with various nutrients, but did you know there are several types of eggs that should not be eaten?
Stinky Eggs: Due to bacterial invasion and massive reproduction inside the egg, it becomes spoiled. The eggshell turns a dull gray, and the shell may even rupture due to expansion from internal hydrogen sulfide gas. The contents inside will be gray-green or dark yellow and have a foul odor. Such eggs must not be eaten, as they can cause bacterial food poisoning.
Cracked Eggs: During transportation, storage, and packaging, eggs can develop cracks or fractures due to vibration and squeezing, making them easily invaded by bacteria. If they have been stored for a long time, they should not be eaten.
Stuck-to-Shell Eggs: In this type of egg, the yolk membrane weakens after prolonged storage, causing the yolk to stick to the shell. If only a part is red, it can still be eaten. However, if the membrane is tightly stuck to the shell and the attached part is dark black with an off odor, it should not be consumed.
Broken-Yolk Eggs: The yolk membrane can rupture from violent shaking during transportation, causing mechanical yolk breakage. Alternatively, if stored for too long, bacteria or molds can enter the egg through the pores in the shell, destroying the protein structure and causing the yolk to break, resulting in thin, cloudy egg liquid.
If the yolk is not severely broken and has no odor, it can still be eaten after high-temperature cooking like frying or boiling. However, if bacteria have multiplied inside the egg, the proteins have denatured, and it has a foul odor, it must not be eaten.
Dead Embryo Eggs: These are eggs where the embryo's development has stopped during incubation due to contamination by bacteria or parasites, combined with poor temperature and humidity conditions. The nutritional content of these eggs has changed. If the embryo has been dead for a long time, the proteins will decompose, producing various toxic substances, so they should not be eaten.
Moldy Eggs: Some eggs are rained on or become damp, which washes away the protective film on the shell's surface, allowing bacteria to enter and cause mold and spoilage. This results in black spots and mold on the shell. Such eggs should not be purchased or eaten.
In addition, generally,泻黄 eggs (yellow-drip eggs), 血筋 eggs (blood-streak eggs), and others should not be purchased or eaten.
