A medical study in the United States suggests that excessive salt intake may indirectly lead to memory decline and gradually affect a person's intelligence.
The study, which involved 2,500 volunteers, primarily conducted comprehensive testing and analysis on the relationship between salt levels, blood pressure, and intelligence in the human body. The findings revealed that when blood pressure rises beyond a certain point, the brain gradually suffers minor damage. Over time, this can impair certain brain functions, and intelligence is likely among the affected functions.
Professor Myron Elias of Boston University stated that the daily salt requirement for an individual is only between 0.5 to 1 gram. However, the average salt intake in some developed countries is as high as 10 grams per day, sometimes even more. This may be related to the prevalence of high-salt foods that people are accustomed to, as many fast-food and semi-processed products contain shockingly high levels of salt.
