Seven Bad Habits That Most Damage Your Teeth

Even without eating sugar, you get cavities. You brush your morning and night, but your teeth still turn yellow. Before you know it, your teeth have problems.

A few often-overlooked habits that damage your teeth:

1. Not rinsing your mouth after cough syrup. As we all know, sugar causes cavities, but people often overlook "hidden" sugars. Most cough medicines contain sugar. After taking cough syrup or throat lozenges, be sure to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth.

2. Alternating between hot and cold. Hot food and cold food can irritate your gums and cause tooth pain. Especially for those who are in the habit of chewing ice, it not only irritates the gums but also wears down the teeth, and can even cause them to crack.

3. Drinking milk before bed. Many mothers give their babies some juice or milk before bed, but they don't realize that this can be very harmful to their babies' teeth.

4. Using your teeth to open things. Using your teeth to open bottle caps or plastic packaging is convenient, but it can create cracks in your teeth and also expose them to bacteria from the packaging.

5. Grinding your teeth. Stress and other factors can cause teeth grinding during sleep, causing severe damage to your teeth. This habit is hard to control. Avoiding hard foods during the day can help reduce the pain and damage caused by grinding.

6. Binge eating. Binge eating often brings excessive sugar and acid, leading to cavities. Also, when you snack, your mouth produces less saliva, making it easier for food to remain on your teeth. This is especially true for starchy foods like potato chips. It's best to use dental floss to clean food debris from between your teeth after eating to reduce damage to your teeth.

7. Frequently drinking coffee and alcohol. Coffee and wine can stain your teeth yellow, and the acid in them can make your teeth more susceptible to staining.
