Massage Acupoints to Easily Beat the "Summer Slump"
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is believed that massaging acupoints can refresh the mind and alleviate drowsiness, while also providing health and wellness benefits. To combat the "summer slump," TCM recommends massaging the Baihui, Taiyang, and Fengchi acupoints. As the weather gets hotter, we not only sweat profusely but also tend to feel drowsy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is believed that massaging acupoints can refresh the mind and alleviate drowsiness, while also providing health and wellness benefits.
Baihui Acupoint (GV20)
The Baihui acupoint is located at the highest point on the top of the head, where the Yang meridians of the hand and foot and the Du meridian converge. Massaging this point can refresh the mind, awaken the senses, and raise Yang energy. Use your thumbs or index fingers to press on the point, applying steady pressure until you feel a sensation of soreness and distension; hold for 30 seconds. You can also perform gentle, circular rubbing motions, repeating 5 times.
Taiyang Acupoint (EX-HN5)
The Taiyang acupoint is located in the depression, about one thumb's width backward from the midpoint between the eyebrow and the outer corner of the eye. Massaging this point not only refreshes the mind but also relieves headaches. Place your thumbs or index fingers on both Taiyang points and gently rotate them in circular motions for 30 seconds. This method is suitable for everyone, but do not apply excessive pressure; a feeling of soreness and distension is sufficient. The number of massages can be adjusted based on the level of mental fatigue.
Fengchi Acupoint (GB20)
This wellness acupoint is located at the back of the neck, below the occipital bone, and level with the Fengfu point (1 cun directly above the midpoint of the posterior hairline). It is an acupoint on the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang. Massaging it can refresh the mind and relieve eye fatigue, with particularly good effects for those who work long hours in front of a computer or spend long hours sitting at a desk. Keep your body upright. Place your thumbs on both Fengchi points, tilt your head back, and rub the points in circular motions for 1 minute until you feel a distinct soreness and distension. Repeat 5 times.
