Unhealthy Mental States to Overcome Before Focusing on Health Preservation
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, small desires and selfish desires harm the body. To control these desires and achieve the goal of nourishing the heart, one must eliminate the following unhealthy mental states.
1. Excessive Selfishness
Being calculating and self-centered, believing one must reap all the world's benefits to be content; otherwise, one complains about fate and others. This state of mind consumes one's energy all day, disrupting sleep and appetite, and inevitably harms physical and mental health.
2. Jealousy
"Constant comparison with others is infuriating." Being unable to tolerate others being superior in any aspect. The behaviors resulting from this mentality not only easily cause friction among peers, colleagues, neighbors, and family but also keep oneself in a constant state of anxiety and irritability, harming the heart and mind, and thus, health.
3. Greed
Overvaluing wealth and profit, with limitless avarice. This strains the mind and damages the spleen, leading to all kinds of illnesses.
4. Malice
Narrow-minded and scheming, taking pleasure in undermining others. Such a malicious character not only leads to a life that is not carefree but also makes one most likely to tread the path of crime.
5. Melancholy
Depressed and joyless, weighed down by heavy thoughts, sighing over old age. They fail to realize, "The more you fear aging, the faster you age; the more you lament illness, the more it will arise." If this mindset is not removed, illness is more likely to linger.
6. Suspicion
