TCM Reminder: Seven Don'ts for Health Preservation for Middle-Aged People
Middle-aged people are a special group. To ensure good health, it is essential to pay attention to health preservation in daily life. To effectively manage health preservation for middle-aged individuals, the first step is to establish a correct health philosophy, aiming for scientific health cultivation and physical strengthening.
Don't be a glutton
Teenagers grow bones, young adults grow flesh, and middle-aged people gain fat. This is the natural law of human development. To prevent weight gain, middle-aged people should not only exercise regularly but also pay special attention to consuming less high-fat and high-sugar foods. Additionally, dinner should not be too heavy; being about half full is generally recommended.
Don't be lazy
As the saying goes, "A tree ages from its roots, and a person ages from their legs." As people reach middle age, they often feel their legs are heavy and experience lower back and leg pain, leading them to avoid exercise. This indicates that aging is quietly setting in. Therefore, middle-aged people must avoid laziness. They should engage in physical activities and sports that are within their physical capacity and in line with their work situation. Doing some housework can also be a great form of exercise.
Don't overwork
Middle-aged people carry the heavy burdens of both work and family, while the human body's capacity to withstand external stress is limited. If this limit is exceeded, it can lead to illness from overwork. Therefore, middle-aged people should always remember: do not overexert yourselves.
Don't be overly desirous
Upon reaching middle age, to avoid premature aging, one should have affection but not excessive desire. Excessive sexual activity can harm the spirit, shorten one's lifespan, and affect health. Some middle-aged people rely on "aphrodisiacs" to seek unrestrained pleasure, which is no different than self-harm.
Don't be angry
A hundred illnesses arise from "qi" (vital energy). When qi is imbalanced, it can easily transform into a harmful factor causing disease. Therefore, middle-aged people must not get angry or fly into a rage at every turn. They should remember the saying: "If you harbor too many grievances, you may break your heart; it's better to keep a broad perspective on the world."
Don't be melancholy
Middle-aged people, due to work or family, often bear heavy mental burdens and become prone to sadness and worry. These emotions can easily accelerate the aging process. Therefore, middle-aged people should learn to cope with life's challenges with composure and not let themselves become overwhelmed by sorrow at every turn.
Don't drink alcohol
Some middle-aged people often drink excessively, feeling that their food is tasteless without alcohol. Little do they know that excessive alcohol consumption can damage liver function and affect the health of the kidneys, spleen, and digestive system. Therefore, it is best for middle-aged people to abstain from alcohol. If they must drink, they should opt for low-alcohol beverages or substitute with tea or fruit juice.
