Four Home First Aid Methods for Food Poisoning

Introduction: Food poisoning is a common occurrence in daily life, especially in the summer. Improper diet can lead to symptoms of food poisoning such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. When food poisoning occurs, it is crucial to take first aid measures promptly. Here, we introduce four home first aid methods for food poisoning.

1. Drink Water: Immediately drink a large amount of clean water to dilute the toxins.

2. Induce Vomiting: If the food was consumed within 1-2 hours before the onset of poisoning, you can induce vomiting. Use your finger to stimulate the throat to expel as much food from the stomach as possible. Alternatively, you can use 100 grams of fresh ginger, crush it to extract the juice, and take it with 200 ml of warm water.

3. Induce Bowel Movement: If the patient consumed the contaminated food more than 2-3 hours ago but is still in relatively good spirits, they can take a laxative to promote the quick expulsion of the contaminated food. Typically, 30 grams of rhubarb is taken in a single decoction. Elderly patients can choose 20 grams of sodium sulfate, taken with boiling water. For elderly patients in good physical condition, 15 grams of senna leaves can also be used in a single decoction or taken with boiling water to achieve the same effect.

4. Detoxification: If the food poisoning is caused by spoiled fish, shrimp, crab, or other seafood, take 100 ml of vinegar, add 200 ml of water, dilute it, and drink it all at once. Additionally, a decoction of 30 grams of perilla and 10 grams of raw licorice can be taken. If spoiled preservatives or beverages have been ingested, the best first aid method is to have the patient drink fresh milk or other protein-containing beverages.

Editor's Note: If the symptoms do not improve after the first aid measures mentioned above, the patient should be sent to the hospital immediately for emergency treatment.
