5 Bedtime Taboos for a Longer Life
Adequate sleep is extremely important for the health of the elderly. According to relevant data, the elderly need at least 6 hours of sleep daily. In addition, special attention should be paid to certain sleep taboos during the preparation, posture, and habits of sleep:
1. Avoid eating before bed: After a person falls asleep, the rhythm of some bodily activities slows down, entering a state of rest.
If you eat before bed, the digestive system and other organs have to become active again, which increases their burden. Other parts of the body also cannot get adequate rest. This not only affects falling asleep but is also detrimental to health.
2. Avoid talking before bed: Talking too much can easily excite the brain and activate thought processes, making it difficult to fall asleep.
3. Avoid excessive mental activity before bed: If you have the habit of working or studying at night, finish the more mentally taxing tasks first. Before bed, do something more relaxing to let your mind unwind, which will make it easier to fall asleep. Otherwise, the brain will remain in an excited state, making it difficult to fall asleep even when lying in bed. Over time, this can easily lead to insomnia.
4. Avoid getting emotionally agitated before bed: People's joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness can easily excite or disrupt the central nervous system, making it difficult to fall asleep and even causing insomnia. Therefore, before bed, try to avoid intense emotions like extreme joy, anger, or anxiety, and maintain an even mood.
5. Avoid drinking strong tea or coffee before bed: Strong tea and coffee are stimulant beverages containing substances like caffeine that can make a person mentally alert. Drinking them before bed can easily cause difficulty in falling asleep.
