When friends and family get together, drinking a few extra glasses is almost inevitable. After excessive drinking, a large amount of alcohol enters the stomach and bloodstream. Those who can't hold their liquor may experience various discomforts from intoxication, not only suffering themselves but also often leaving their family and friends at a loss. How can this situation be prevented and managed?
First, do not drink on an empty stomach, as alcohol is easily absorbed in the stomach, leading to intoxication. It is recommended to eat foods rich in starch and high protein before drinking, such as pastries, bread, eggs, and milk. These can reduce the gastrointestinal absorption of alcohol and lower the chances of getting drunk.
Second, if you feel dizzy or nauseous, you can shred half a cabbage heart, mix it with a small amount of sugar and vinegar, and eat it. This method can quickly sober you up. You can also drink celery juice; chop the celery, extract the juice, and drink it every 5 minutes. After three servings, the feeling of dizziness and heaviness will be relieved immediately. Watermelon is a diuretic, and eating a piece can help alleviate body heat. Grapes can treat nausea and vomiting, while bananas can increase blood sugar concentration, reduce the proportion of alcohol in the blood, and thus relieve post-drink palpitations and chest tightness. Yogurt can protect the gastric mucosa and is rich in calcium; drinking a cup is particularly effective for relieving irritability after being drunk.
If the intoxication is severe, family and friends nearby should provide timely assistance. First, have the intoxicated person lie down and rest, and unbutton their collar and tie. When vomiting, position the person on their side in a bent posture; never let them lie prone or supine to avoid hypoxia or inhaling vomit into the trachea, which could lead to suffocation. If aspiration occurs, immediately remove the pillow, turn the person's head to the side, and pat their back to expel the inhaled substance. For severe nausea with an inability to vomit on their own, they can drink some vinegar water or plain water and use chopsticks or other objects to stimulate the pharynx to induce vomiting. If the intoxicated person shows symptoms such as unconsciousness, cold and clammy skin, convulsions, or coma, they should be sent to the hospital for emergency treatment immediately.
